Comment :Great little site, visiting myy roots so to speak . As a child i was a parishioner of St Marks attending Sunday School and GFS on a Friday evenings. I recall the Whitsintide picnics quite well. I lived on Vicarage Rd attending both infant and junior schools. I rememberMr Pallot(Headmaster)Mr Packer Miss Cruishshank and Miss Brown (who I believe lived in the village, we gave her a sundial when she retired which sat proudly in her front garden.I have very happy memories of being part of the parish and the village. Thank you for the memories.

Comment :Enjoyed your site. Through doing family history I've discovered that some relatives of mine had a pig farm at Grenoside or Grimesthorpe. Arthur GREEN (his parents were Walter and Sophia GREEN and he had a brother Walter)kept pigs and I have a photo of him with them! I'd be interested if anyone has any idea where this might have been! It was possibly around the first World War but I'm not sure!

Comment :I grew up at the top of Browning Road, Foxhill, and spent a lot of my formative years wandering the Greno' woods. Vividly remember Marsden's farm up the hill from Salt Box Lane, and wandering the Back Edge on Saturdays, with the awesome views of Crookes/Stannington. Always climbed the wall to look at what we thought was a 'secret army base'on Jawbone lane before going down into Grenoside village. It's probably all changed since then. (circa 1950).I have probably got all the names wrong!! Contact by e-mail is OK.

Comment :My Great Great Grandparents lived in this area from at least 1840, they moved between Grenoside, Ecclesfield and High Green. There names are THOMAS born 1831 & GEORGE HUTCHINSON born 1860 AND JOHN WILLIAM HARPHAM. George is listed in the census as being a professional cricketer, but he later lost both his legs in an accident. Can you help me discover more about these families. Please contact me by e.mail.

Comment :I live on Cinder Hill Lane and have done for all 20 years of my life. I was fascinated to discover that my house is built on the site of old cottages and that across the road there used to be a crucible. i never knew the area around my house had so much history in grenoside as it seems the neglected part of the village.

Comment :Several of my ancestors come from grenoside, Housley, Naylor, Hartley, Taylor, Beamond. Are the Grenoside Parish Records available on line? In 1940, before the Sheffield blitz, my grandma was bombed out and re-located to 385 Halifax Road together with my aunt and uncle. They were regulars at the bottom Red Lion and the Old Harrow, when on leave I often joined them. On boxing day we used to have a football match for a small barrel of beer, between the married and single men. this took place on a steeply sloping field opposite the parish rooms. The two goal keepers only had two legs between them. Happy memories, does anyone else remember those days?
